I wrote my first play when I was six years old. My career might have ended right
there, but luckily I found an enterprising fourth grader who was willing to produce
my work. Since then, I've had my plays produced all over the country -- in New
York and Los Angeles, as well as such far-flung places as Jonesboro, Arkansas
and McCall, Idaho. I studied theatre formally at the University of Arizona, where
I received an M.F.A. degree. I have worked professionally as a director, production
assistant, stage manager, scene designer and actress, as well as a writer, for
many different theatre companies.
My children's plays have won awards from the Bonderman/IRT/IUPUI Symposium, the
Seven Devils Playwrights Conference, the Tacoma Arts Commission and the Columbia
Entertainment Company. I have twice been invited to develop my plays at the National
Playwrights Conference at the Eugene O'Neill Theatre Center, under the priceless
artistic directorship of Mr. Lloyd Richards.
In 2004 I received a Distinguished Artists Fellowship from Artists Trust and the
Washington State Arts Commission. I am a regular script advisor for the screenwriting
Web site ScriptDoctor
(http://www.scriptdoctor.com.) I am the head of the Youth Drama program at Central Washington University in Ellensburg, where I teach classes in Children's Theatre and Playwriting.
